Canopy Moth Project

Project details

A moth trapping project has been carried out by Dr Adrian Spalding at Trelusback to compare the number and quantity of moth species at canopy height with those trapped at ground level. A nine metre scaffold tower, provided by Trelusback Foundation for Wildlife Conservation, was erected next to a Pedunculate Oak tree.

This made it possible to install a moth trap at the top of the tower level with the canopy and another trap on the ground next to the base of the tower.

The work, supported by Trelusback Foundation for Wildlife Conservation and Spalding Associates (Environmental) Ltd, has now been completed. A report has been produced using the data obtained during the survey and has been published in the British Journal of Entomology and is also available on our website.
